For Estação Primeira de Mangueira, a samba school of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, we created a giant rose with crystals for its parade at the Marquês de Sapucaí Sambadrome. The piece would be the headpiece of a performer on a parade float, so it had to be large, brilliant and light at the same time. The magenta petals received a high-shine finish and rows of hand-applied crystals along the edges. Under the Sambadrome floodlights, the light on the crystals created a hypnotic effect visible from afar. A milestone in the atelier’s journey and proof that giant flowers transform any stage, from a Carnival parade to a window display or a wedding.
