New York is one of the world's capitals of the most sophisticated storefronts on the planet. It was in this fiercely competitive visual landscape that the "Manhattan Ruby" project was born: an artistic intervention to anchor a prestigious jewelry store's window, with a giant flower as the central point of attraction.
The Challenge
In a metropolis like New York, the biggest challenge is time — capturing the eye of a hurried pedestrian in a fraction of a second. Small pieces, however valuable, get lost in large storefronts without a high-impact focal point. The jeweler needed a sculpture that echoed the sparkle of its new ruby collection, without resorting to ordinary props.
The Floral Installation
We created a monumental botanical sculpture in heavyweight cardstock, with every petal hand-shaped and strategic applications of gold leaf. When the storefront's directional spotlights hit the flower, the gold reflected the light, creating a visual spectacle that harmonized with the sparkle of the jewels displayed just below. The intense red color and the golden touch stopped foot traffic on the sidewalk, connecting the piece to the store's average price point.
